Se l'imperfezione è il bello dei Portugal. The Man l'incontinenza è invece il loro lato oscuro. In estrema sintesi: se invece di sei (quasi sette...) album ne avessero fatti tre parleremmo sicuramente di capolavori. E non esagero. Invece siamo costretti a parlare semplicemente di ottimi album. E In the Mountain, In the Cloud non fa eccezione, riesce ad essere ancora fresco nonostante già tanta acqua sia passata sotto ai ponti del rock psichedelico targato Portugal. The Man. La notevolissima voce di John Gourley è sempre convincente, emoziona e coinvolge caratterizzando in maniera inconfondibile il suono della band. Che come sempre non si limita al rock ma spazia tra passato e futuro senza disdegnare pop e folk: Got It All.

In the Mountain, In The Cloud is the sixth album in six years released by Portugal. The Man. The first for a major label. I've been following them carefully in the last years and I sincerely admire their melodic talent, the lack of respect for the unwritten rules of good rock music and a touch of craftsmanship, or even approximation, which characterizes their work in the studio. This is not a planned strategy but their direct and naive way of making music. If imperfection is the beauty of Portugal. The Man incontinence is rather their dark side. In a nutshell: if instead of six (almost seven ...) they had made just three albums, we would confidently speak of masterpieces. And I do not exaggerate. Instead we are forced to speak simply of excellent albums. And In the Mountain, In The Cloud is no exception, it's cool despite already so much water has passed under the bridges of Portugal. The Man's psychedelic rock. John Gourley's remarkable voice is always compelling, excites and involves characterizing the sound of the band. As always, thy're not limited to rock and they range between past and future without forgetting pop and folk: Got It All.
